Flag Detail

The Flag is raised or lowered twice a day at a quiet little school atop the Cumberland Plateau.  "It's an honor for 8th grade students at Coalmont because it's a lot more than raising and lowering a flag. It's about the history of all the people who came before you."

The flag detail at Coalmont Elementary consists of three young men who are charged with the responsibility of caring for the Colors and signaling the beginning and the end of the school day.

The students arrive at 7:15 a.m. to perform flag duties. They return again at 2:50 p.m. to return the flag to its place in the front office.   The detail lasts an entire year.
